So long

So long, e-pards. I have decided to put an end to this blog. I’m sorry to do it because I have enjoyed these years of posting about Westerns, and the e-conversations that resulted. I have learned a lot from comments left by readers and almost feel I know some of the regulars! But Blogspot’s new system is so very bad that it has become too difficult to post new articles. It won’t accept livelinks, for example, I don’t know why, and those were an essential part of the blog. I can’t present the pages as I want with the paragraphing and spacing and font that I desire. Illustrations won’t go in. And so on. It really is very disappointing. Why they had to change a system that functioned perfectly well in favor of a dismally bad one that doesn’t is a mystery. I suppose they call it progress. I shall continue reading and writing about the world of the Western, and if I find a more serious blog service I may restart there. If so, I’ll try to put up a new post on Blogspot to tell everyone where. Meanwhile I’ll leave this body of work up and those who are interested can read back numbers, Blogspot permitting (not a given). If anyone from Blogspot is reading this, your new format stinks, and you’ve lost one customer at least, and his readers. So happy trails, dear e-readers, as your Jeff rides off into the sunset.

  2. Thank you for the awesome posts you've written over the years, and I really hope this is not the end. I hate "improvements" that take away functionality. Grrrrrr. Take care and hopefully, they'll fix what they've broken.

  5. Jeff, this is by far the most serious comment I have read online anywhere, and I believe there are ramifications too obscure, but clearly present, to describe. Something is going on, and not just Blogspot. Good luck.

  8. Jeff, I don't know what is going on with Blogspot, but as the old saying goes, "a camel is a horse designed by a committee." I can, hands down, understand your frustrations. I get really hackled with Google and Microsoft, also. I hope that you shall return in the future with more grand write-ups in an improved format. There is always hope.

Thank you for some wonderfully written articles on the genre that we all love. Jeff, you are TOP NOTCH.

    Best,
    Walter C. Severs

  12. Jeff, this is truly an unbearable situation ans, as most of your readers, I cannot stand it...

Even if i presume you have reviewed many solutions to solve your problems, I am going to introduce you to an American friend also living in France via a direct e-mail.
She is writing her own blog not at all related to what you are doing but who knows, at least you may not feel as lonely in this techno world... Hoping it will bring a new light !

  13. Jeff- I'm sorry to hear this. I discovered the site just this year and visit it almost every day due to the breadth and depth of your work. This is a terrific blog. As Howard Hawks would say, "He's good." I hope you reconsider but understand your decision. Thanks for your writing.

  18. Jeff, have you got the opportunity to touch base with my friend Lynne !? I don't know if it would be a huge task to move to an other blog system better than the new blogspot... In an other hand I cannot think you could conclude this adventure with a final post dedicated to the italian western, what an irony, it could be called the spaghetti revenge...!

  19. Jeff, l might not have commented as much as others, but l always visited once a week for an hour with cup of coffee. Each visit was like reading a chapter from a good western film book.
